As part of the Pro Internacional (prointernacional.com) team, I contributed to the redesign and implementation of the new CIER portal (cier.org). The project combined a full website rebuild with a Progressive Web App (PWA), and was driven by both a brand refresh and the need for a more manageable content platform.

Before this project, CIER's site was built and managed on SharePoint, and the organization was undergoing an internal rebranding that introduced a new visual identity, colors and logo. At the same time, they needed a portal that non-technical staff could maintain without touching HTML, while keeping all the institutional and historical content that already existed.

We implemented the new site using WordPress as the CMS, giving CIER:

  • A visual and editor-friendly backend tailored for users without technical or HTML knowledge.
  • Structures for blogs, news and historical publications so that existing content could be migrated and preserved.
  • A setup that maintained their SEO presence, ensuring that legacy posts and publications continued to be discoverable and that the replatforming did not erase their search footprint.

A key requirement from CIER was the development of a PWA designed for mobile use, exposing exclusive content for users accessing the site from their phones. To achieve this, we:

  • Used WordPress as an API source, leveraging its built-in capabilities and additional libraries/plugins to expose content in a way that could be consumed by an external application.
  • Built a separate PWA front end with a different interface and feature set from the main website, focused on mobile-first interaction and access to selected content.
  • Integrated the PWA with the organization's Active Directory-based services from Microsoft, so that access to certain features and content could be controlled through existing identity infrastructure.

My contribution focused on the full-stack implementation of the new portal and PWA architecture: using WordPress as both a traditional CMS and a content API, shaping how content types, URLs and taxonomies supported SEO continuity, and collaborating on the integration pattern that allowed the PWA to consume the same data while enforcing Active Directory-based access control. The result is a modern website and mobile PWA that aligns with CIER's new brand, keeps their historical content and SEO value, and empowers non-technical editors to manage the portal going forward.
